Those are sensible reasons not to get a Master's degree. Research positions might all be filled up, but it sounded more like she was grouping teaching in with that, too. I know that having a M.Ed or a MAC is a benefit to most of the teachers, even if it does mean extra expenditure - so in the teaching case, going back and getting the Master's might be better. If you've got a state with continuing education requirements, there's going to be school involved anyway.
