The US invaded foreign countries, captured people and held them in violation of every international treaty and the US's own laws, presented no evidence or any justification beyond "We think they are terrorists", and subjected them to degrading conditions, torture, and Azathoth knows what else.
And they expect that, once they finally manage to get out, they will be full of love for the self-professed Shining Beacon of Good, Freedom, and Honour?
I'd frankly be shocked if they didn't immediately sign up with every militant anti-US organisation they can find.
It may come as a surprise to some, but I don't think Guantanamo should be closed. The current prisoners should all be released, yes, but once they are all gone it should be kept open. And filled with the people who created it, supported its existence, and supported the violations that went on there, so that they can all experience their creation first-hand. And be forced to tell people, on regular news programs just how very much they are enjoying their stay there, and the daily sessions of "not torture, we promise!" they so enthusiastically supported. Perhaps it might serve as an illustrative warning to those who, at some point in the future, may attempt to make the same mistakes, and an instructive demonstration of Nietzsche's famous warning (and yes, I am aware of the irony there)
