For those who celebrate the Festival of Lights, happy Diwali. For those who are ready for Costume Day on Monday, fantastic. And for the Samhain and Halloween types, a happy festival and we hope that you are met only by those who you want to see, regardless of what side of the veil they're on.

Cheers, everyone. Recognize this - it is not physically possible for a student to have managed to bottstraps-pulled themselves through college without loans on minimum wage without having taken either a very long time to do so or without assistance from a lot of sources - lots of sources in addition to a significacnt amount of scholarship monies to defray costs. A picture like this claiming to not be part of the 99% is at best a poor propaganda tool and at worst someone entirely deluded about how much bootstrapping they actually did. Furthermore, those of us who had advantages enough to make it through the minefield of college are staring the future in the face and saying, "Oh, shit".

Child pornography was passed about on Twitter - but one person was able to stop it with a campaign and contacting the authorities. What was that saying about evil triupmhing because good people did nothing? And apparently, the lack of a strong and forceful white feminist response to that trend has femnists of color making accusations that white feminists want to achieve equality by throwing women of color under the bus.

Out in the world today, Women in Yemen are protesting the government's crackdown on their democratic revolution by burning veils in the street The gesture is apparently a traditional call to tribesmen to come to their aid.

An accident that would probably have Yakkity Sax apply in retrospect, but must have been scary while it happened.

Domestically, the federal government has published proposed rules allowing them to lie to those making Freedom of Information Act requests and tell them there are no records when records do exist.

Elsewhere, suggested reforms to Congressional salaries, contracts, retirement plans, and health care so as to make the Congress more acutely aware of the rest of the country's plights and to stop them from getting separated from that plight again. Hopefully, one can also drill into them that places that do not offer actual medical advice to pregnant women but instead push religious views and bigotry on them do not deserve any sort of taxpayer funding as well.

Legally-married couples are suing the military to give them their proper benefits, because federal law does not recognize their marriages.

The United States House of Representatives voted to exclude United States airlines from the European Union's planned regulations of jet emissions for all airlines flying in and out of the EU. Because, of course, no upstanding American would ever let anyone from Europe regulate them in anything.

First Nations children in states such as South Dakota are being kidnapped from their families and placed in foster care by the government that uses some exceedingly flimsy excuses to do so. The beginning of a year-long investigation comes to light courtesy of NPR.

On the question of violent responses to peaceful protests, groups composed of military and police veterans have sworn to provide protection for the protesters. That said, the police attacking the peaceful protesters are demanding that the video of those assaults be removed from the Internet, for evidence of their wrongdoing would make their story go up in smoke. Those who have had their own success at nonviolent resistance are publicly standing with their fellows in the United States - and from all the stuff we get about being the Greatest Nation On Earth, that headline should never have to be written.

Last out of this section, employees need to be trained on the use of AEDs in the building. AEDs in the building need to be accessible in an emergency. Supervisors need to know that there are laws to protect first responders...and bosses need to make it absolutely clear that anyone telling an employee to stop administering aid in an emergency, especially a supervisor, unless they are willing to take over, will be SACKED immediately. That way, we don't have people dying while there were first responders and life-saving technology available.

In technology, a reminder for those of us who are always looking forward - there are always people for whom even the entry-level cost will forever be too expensive, or the environment too hostile, to be able to adapt. When the skills that are learned from that technology are becoming more and more necessary for societal survival, the digital divide grows an "app gap", causing problems even for the digital "natives" that young people supposedly are.

Private companies are still looking at Luna as a place to be mined, or as a target for their landers and modules to do a There And Back Again on.

The last of the largest nuclear weapons, the B53 class, has been successfully disarmed before its own instability could cause a nuclear disaster. Of course, this does not mean the U.S. is nuclear-free...far from it.

In opinions, the conservative media is heavily invested in the idea of democratic revolutions turning into Islamic theocracies. For example, Ms. Charen believes that Mr. Obama's foreign policy doctrine is to avoid doing anything that might advance American Interests, and so his responses to the Arab Spring (and that Bloodthirsty Religion country, Iran) have been wholly inadequate.

Mr. Boehner is unimpressed with the way that the Russian Federation governs itself, seeing far too much of the USSR in it.

The editors of the WSJ praise Mitt Romney for his insistence that the foreclosure process must destroy houses and homeowners and find its bottom, regardless of whom is displaced, before the economy will recover. Ms. Noonan praises Mr. Ryan and his insistence that Democratic-favoring crony capitalism must be stopped if the economy is to recover, while Wall Street gets a pass. Clearly, the correct solution is what Mr. Meltzer proposes after claiming that Keynesians get it all wrong - reduce corporate taxes, repeal regulations, and then force the budget to be cut severely and never allowed to grow again.

Mr. Moran returns to Bush Derangement Syndrome as the explanation for why so many lefitsts would be happy that troops are coming home from Iraq at the end of the year. Because if they understood that it was a surrender giving Iran control of Iraq and the Middle East, they wouldn't be so happy to see all of that work going to waste.

Ah, and out of opinions tonight, Ms. Coulter does her very best to make liberalism seem like the belief of idiots and fools, starting with the applause of Flint residents about an understaffed police force (as if Flint residents would have no legitimate reason to cheer such a thing based on the relationship of Flint's people to its police force) and ending on how it's absurd to believe that a jobs bill could prevent rapes and assaults by spending money on teachers. It's kind of like focusing on asking questions about firearms control in the middle of a recession and then trumpeting the response devoid of context.

Last for tonight, Hail, Columbia! - A project to remind the majority monotheists that religious diversity and tolerance is a founding principle of the government of the United States. Just in time for 125 years of the Statue of Liberty. And some costumes for Costume Day or other festivals and activities that provide some gender balance and well-clothed goddessess for wearing rather than the short-skirted, tarted-up version of something else.

Yeah, the idea that people can bootstrap themselves through college on a minimum-wage job is a myth, and everyone I've known who's built up a 'bootstraps' myth around themselves seems to have massive debt in student loans. :P
