You know, it would be so much easier to get ahead in life if shit would just stop breaking. Just saying.

Or, at least, if something gets fixed, it stays fixed. Because tonight, the thing that threatens to flood my basement (yet again) is something that got fixed the last time the rains came. Inexpensively, anyway. But apparently not permanently. Which means we're calling in the professional to see whether or not it can be fixed correctly. And inexpensively. But mostly correctly.

And this is me playing on the easy difficulty. Can only wonder how much worse it is for someone who got saddled with a harder difficulty. (This also qualifies as the bitter point where it really his home that even if you play the game of Privilege exactly according to instructions, there's no guarantee that you will succeed. You may point and laugh at that, because disillusionment is funny, in a schadenfreude story of way, or in a "what took you so long?" way.) There's the economic crash, sure, but...gah. I just want to reach for the cheat codes at this point, because even easy mode is turning out too difficult for me. (And somehow I'm convinced this means I'm a bad player.)

Ye gods.

You're being too hard on yourself. It's no reflection on your ability that stuff isn't fixed properly; it's the way of the world, especially with the "design for the dump" system that we have in place now. Shit happens. It's not your fault.

Aunt Janie's basement used to flood all the time and it wasn't entirely he fault - apparently it had something to do with the neighbours septic system (if I'm remembering correctly). Their system wasn't draining properly, and it was seeping through into her basement (detached houses). Could that be your problem?

Alternately, I'd also suggest investing in a wet/dry vac if you dont already own one. That thing was a godsend when her basement would flood!
