[It's December Days time. Topic suggestions still welcome, but this particular topic is brought on by necessity.]

Get met by the south end of a southward traveling spear.

Experience the unique phenomenon of being struck by lightning. But not so unique as to live through it.

Be caught in a sandstorm and drown as the particulates jam your lungs and prevent oxygen exchange.

Stab yourself in both eyes in a regrettable pitchfork accident.

Piss off the god of fortune and be cursed with bad luck forever.

Be volunteered to permanently substitute into Loki's place under the Midgard Serpent while suffering Prometheus's punishment.

Get stuck in a time loop consisting solely of the moment in which your flesh is stripped from your bones by a nuclear incident.

And then, after all of that, be exposed to the truth of the triumph of entropy. Watch the universe go out until you are the last being left and realize they're is no more time and your karma is still unclean and you must re-experience it all again until you can get it right the whole time instead of only up to a point.

And then, maybe then, you will decide not to smash my window and steal my tablet, whomever you were. Because you took what was not yours. Even though it was old and dying and needs a very specific charger to work. Even though it probably would have been replaced soon enough.

At least the universe waited six years or so between break-ins. Can we turn the encounter rate for that down to zero now?

You didn't mention whether the insurance would cover a replacement, so I'm guessing that's a no?

Can I hire you to throw curses on people for me? I'm awestruck at just how thorough that was.

The thievery and car damage is awful. I'm so sorry to hear it.

I only got stolen from once (whole house got robbed; lost things of sentimental and actual value) so I know how much it hurts and how vulnerable it can make anyone feel.

Wishing you all the best...

Wow, that is awful...I'd offer you my tablet until you can replace it with something you want, but the screen's cracked so touch is completely MIA (but it does have a functioning, detachable keyboard that still works fine with it) and it's of the rare variety that runs Windows instead of iOS or Android, so it's probably too exotic for most people to really want to mess with.

I feel for you. Sunday after Thanksgiving, in Phoenix, someone smashed the rear window of my wife's car and stole my 27" iMac. The reason it was in the car: it was having a problem with either the video card or the hard drive, it was hard to get a definitive diagnostic, and I was going to take it in for service.

The joy is that I've been unemployed since July. We put the $250 deductible on my credit card, and I'm waiting to here back from insurance about replacement. Fortunately we have a very good homeowner's policy.

To quote the movie Clerks, Buncha savages in this town.

Even though it is very inconveniencing and problematic to us, the victims, I am amused at people stealing worthless things. My car was burgled once in Phoenix, someone stole the control head to my ham radio. Just the head, with the display and microphone. The radio itself was mounted under the driver's seat. Take it in to a pawn shop and they'd say "What is this?" A fence wouldn't give them a dime for it, and it ended up in the trash somewhere.

I was working for the PD at the time, so that would have been about 20 years ago.

Even if my Mac was completely dead, I wanted to take it apart for (A) the experience and (ii) to get the hard drive out of it. While I have a backup, it was a months old 4 TB hybrid drive that I could have put to use.

It will be interesting to see what the employment and crime rates do under our forthcoming Orange POTUS. will the former improve and the latter decline, or do we need to make sure nothing valuable is ever left in our cars?

A friend of mine's car was stolen so often that at night she left the car unlocked so they'd stop smashing the window.
