Laziness and Love Memes

The concept of laziness is often used as a shortcut, usually without complete information, and with a strong bout of moral judgment and "should" attached.
Since I've been taking some sick time recently after fighting with my own head about whether I deserve to heal up and rest or whether I'm "really" sick enough to deserve it (despite some obvious symptoms and signs of it), this piece about laziness what it entails has significant relevance.

kaberett's way, and if you wanted to leave something in my thread, that would be helpful.

Hey, if you can survive in this world without a job, awesome! More power to you. Doesn't make you lazy.
You definitely deserve to heal up. So do I. Hugs and love <3
You are valuable and interesting and important and do great things in your library!
Sorry I've not been around for a while. Glad to be here again.

Date: 2018-08-23 02:57 am (UTC)I find it interesting that we don't consider people who are rich enough to not have a job as lazy - just people who might need a more robust support system than others. And we out a lot of investment of identity into our careers and jobs, as if that were our primary measure of worth.
I can certainly try to heal up. And I'm not sure that I do great things at the library, but it's a nice thought.

Date: 2018-08-24 08:41 am (UTC)Anyone not feeling up to par is sick enough to deserve it. I want to say "You deserve it because we all do, sick or not" but don't want to sound like I'm tsk-tsking. Just stating a fact. Rest should be everyone's everyday activity (when possible) not something we're all doing only upon our deathbeds *curses Protestant work ethics/Calvinism/any other work to death movement or philosophy that's ever pissed me off/destroyed others* (though Japan has something even worse going on with that, come to think of it)
Hope you will feel better.

Date: 2018-09-17 06:13 pm (UTC)I guess my problem is knowing I'm not just lazy, and knowing I'm working to get everything taken care of, isn't helping because it's just taking so long for it all to happen. Everything takes time, and I want it fixed NOW. I want to feel better now.
it's hard, but I'm trying to be gentle with myself, to not have the "shoulds" and all those negative (in this context) words press me down until there's nothing but "I want this to stop" left. It's hard. I have support, but still feel the secret (and probably all in my head) judging from my family. Ugh. Anyway, yeah.
Also, fighting with my head is the most tiring thing I've ever done, so i get how you feel. Take the time. You're worth it.
