The concept of laziness is often used as a shortcut, usually without complete information, and with a strong bout of moral judgment and "should" attached.

Since I've been taking some sick time recently after fighting with my own head about whether I deserve to heal up and rest or whether I'm "really" sick enough to deserve it (despite some obvious symptoms and signs of it), this piece about laziness what it entails has significant relevance.

There's also a lovely Midsummer Night's Love Meme over at [personal profile] kaberett's way, and if you wanted to leave something in my thread, that would be helpful.

Complete recovery cannot be the only acceptable outcome of a rest day. Some shit takes TIME. Esp if the stressor doesn't go away!

You get a reply here, not there, because I'm not really into love memes.

One thing that's always bothered me in general about society is the whole "if you don't have a job, you're LAZY" in the same context as that post.

Hey, if you can survive in this world without a job, awesome! More power to you. Doesn't make you lazy.

You definitely deserve to heal up. So do I. Hugs and love <3

You are valuable and interesting and important and do great things in your library!

Sorry I've not been around for a while. Glad to be here again.

Rich people have a robust support system in place, and it's bullshit inequality, is what it is.

I'm unemployed because there are almost zero good tech jobs in my area, most of the few that remain pay garbage, and I've been persistently sick since March. Now that I had surgery two weeks ago and am beginning to feel slightly better, I'm hoping to be able to start doing positive things again.

Mental hygiene days are very important to take off when needed, but it does take time to straighten yourself out. So take your time. If you're having your doubts about your value to the library, it might be time to look for a position at another branch or even a new library.

On a semi-unrelated note, Good Tickle Brain just posted page 1 of stick figure Midsummer Night's Dream. https://goodticklebrain.com/

Anyone not feeling up to par is sick enough to deserve it. I want to say "You deserve it because we all do, sick or not" but don't want to sound like I'm tsk-tsking. Just stating a fact. Rest should be everyone's everyday activity (when possible) not something we're all doing only upon our deathbeds *curses Protestant work ethics/Calvinism/any other work to death movement or philosophy that's ever pissed me off/destroyed others* (though Japan has something even worse going on with that, come to think of it)

Hope you will feel better.

I LOVED this article the first time I read it. I love it this time, too.

I guess my problem is knowing I'm not just lazy, and knowing I'm working to get everything taken care of, isn't helping because it's just taking so long for it all to happen. Everything takes time, and I want it fixed NOW. I want to feel better now.

it's hard, but I'm trying to be gentle with myself, to not have the "shoulds" and all those negative (in this context) words press me down until there's nothing but "I want this to stop" left. It's hard. I have support, but still feel the secret (and probably all in my head) judging from my family. Ugh. Anyway, yeah.

Also, fighting with my head is the most tiring thing I've ever done, so i get how you feel. Take the time. You're worth it.
