Greetings! This is the Write Every Day Check-In Post for 2 November 02019.

Criminy! It's November. That means I've got a month before the December Days writing challenge. Every year, I usually take the month of December to talk about a single topic in its various permutations here and around. Topics in the past have included my day job, the process of writing, and a three-year project that was talking about each of the 78 cards in a baseball Tarot deck.

Consider this a solicitation of suggestions for topics to write about. I can also piece together some shorter topic sequences into it so that the whole month gets done, but I really enjoy having a dingle topic to examine in depth during December, where possible. You may only know me through the WED posts, but don't let that be a barrier to making suggestions. You might spark what the eventual topic becomes.

Today, in writing, I went back to a non-assignment work and added some more words to it, getting this particular bit closer to its end, and just having a good time writing it. I like to have a good time when it comes to writing. The ideas come easier and the writing goes better when I'm not freezing up and trying to figure out how to power through a section that's just not writing.

Only about 125 words so far today, but that's not zero, and the snippet included a cogent point that hadn't come up in the fic and really should have done. So I'll take it.

A baseball tarot deck. Huh. I love how that melds baseball cards and divination.

Today's count was 712 words, split between a OC fleeing into a desert cave system and Harry Potter's insomnia. I still haven't the faintest idea what 'project' I'm working on here.

I really like that deck. It's especially good for those of us who are baseball fans in the Non-Statistical Division (which I borrowed from onyxlynx, whose memory is a blessing.)

Day 2 -- 360 words on several things: finished and posted a piece to Fan Flashworks, finished an posted a piece to the current SWG challenge, and added words to Lamps/Hostages. Better than I expected for today.

I did my Yuletide letter (~1700 words, how did THAT happen!) and wrote some of a private project.

Can I just say that I went to read your yuletide letter out of idle curiosity, and your description of your wants might have helped me figure out how to move forward with my current WIP, so:

Day 3: A few tweaks to time travel fic #4 (I need to read it through once more before I send it to beta) and 606 words on time travel fic #5 (ie, the first scene and a bit), which... I might maaaybe possibly have the tiniest inkling of where this one's going, but it's still pretty hazy. Hopefully some genius idea will occur to me overnight. *clings to momentum*

not sure if scene 2 is "Ladyblog readers speculate on wtf happened in scene 1" or not. brain still trying to tell me scene 1 is unusably contrived anyway, and laptop fuckery didn't help, of course. there are at least more words now than there were at midnight.

November 2: 98 words to wrap up the main story, now ready to post.

Day 2: worked on editing my draft, for a net of 170 words worth of additions and deletions. The real edits need to be made later on, but it was good to read through and see that the first 30k is pretty solid. Also wrote 832 words on the other WIP, and wrote up my Yuletide requests and letter.

Yay, words. And yay, a bigger work mostly hanging together by itself. That's nice.

I wrote a little over 550 words on the novel. That's a good wordcount for this, since I'm planning to trick myself into getting it done by writing little bits on it every day. ;-)

And then some slogging on the nonfiction project. You asked about this; I'm working on an annotated bibliography on Mount Diablo, a local landmark. You'd be surprised at how much writing goes into what's basically a list of books and articles. Lots of little synopses, just to start. I found much more than I (or anyone) expected, which means I'll probably go over deadline. That's not a big problem, but I would like to finish it. Even though I'm having a lot of fun doing it!

That sounds like a neat project, and an unexpected wealth of information makes it better to work through.

313 words on the novel, yay. I'm uncertain whether they're something to keep or not, but basically I was using them to try to work another previously written snippet into the overarching plot, such as it is.

I also handwrote a few notebook pages of the ambush project (ie. a surprise sci-fi story that I started writing during my Dublin trip just to see what I could do with an inspiring thing I'd seen, and somehow it morphed into sci-fi of undetermined length; I've no idea yet if it plans to be a novel, a novella, or simply a longish short story / novelette).

I also managed to write enough of my Yuletide requests to be able to sign up, though I plan to add at least one other fandom today, and add a letter as well. But at least I'm not doing the "last-moment sign-up, all request details are in the letter which is still a placeholder" thing that I've done in some exchanges.

I'll try to come back later with writing topic suggestions! I haven't got any ideas now, but it's fun to brainstorm ideas about that kind of stuff.

2,5k for me yesterday, with 2216 words written for NaNo, split between some world-building and the original tale which is going to be part of the novel project now. I've started to write down my world-building ideas in the form of short tales that even might find a use later in-story, so it's still also narrative writing.

Ooh, neat. That's a a great way of getting your worldbuild in where it could also be part of the narrative.

I'm pre-coffee at the moment, so there are no ideas in my brain beyond: "Cooffeeeee!" in a shambling zombie voice. *grins*

If I come up with something later, I will check back, though. In the meantime, this is to report that I wrote 685 words on the story idea yesterday, mostly dialogue of various sorts.

Great for words! Dialogue is one of the best ways I know of to not only get words going, but to vamp a touch before the next part of the plot arrives.
