Greetings! This is the Write Every Day Check-In Post for 7 November 02019.

I've been struck with a significant case of getting it wrong lately, or at least not being clear enough to people. Not necessarily in my fiction writing, but in normal(ish) communication. It can be pretty frustrating when you look back and something and go "Oh, snot. There was supposed to be an entire sentence there that my brain helpfully told me was there, but it is not." Or where the thing you thought was pretty clear ends up getting a reply saying something like "I couldn't tell if you were in support or against this position." Because text is such a context-devoid medium at times. However, both things were rectified easily enough, I hope, and on another day, we can continue to strive to be clearer.

Today, in writing, I did a lot on a single assignment, because some things that I thought might be funny kept asking to be written. At the point, though, even though I know where I'm trying to go in the story, I am beginning to have the doubts that the person who will ultiately receive the work won't like any of it or will wonder why it's there because they wanted to go immediately to something else. I am trusting my own process in this, and since we haven't made it out of "drafting" stage on this yet, the entire kitchen sink goes in, and the person who will be betaing the work will help untangle it into something that does meet what was asked for and will be an enjoyable thing to read. At least I know it's more than met the minimum for wordcount, so when the tinker phase happens, I won't have to worry about whether edits will somehow bring it in under count. (They almost never do. Most times, the editing process adds words instead of removing them.) I might let that story rest a bit, once I jot the notes for the things that I definitely want to see in them, and go at another story tomorrow. Which I should be heading to bed over, because I have to get up earlier than usual for work. Joy.

I hear you on editing adding words rather than taking them out. Though today my edits on two sections of the draft netted a grand total of 3 words, since I did actually take some stuff out! Also wrote 856 words on the WIP, which may or may not end up in the final fic. This is gonna be one of those finish and then see what does and doesn't fit kind of deals.

Most times, the editing process adds words instead of removing them.

That is the story of my day today! :-) Sleep well!

Day 8: I revised the story I got back from beta yesterday (#4), adding 1,217 words. I still have the last quarter to go, which I'll do tomorrow, followed by another pass to make sure the additions are seamless. I added 44 words to the one I've just started (#6) and sent #5 to beta. And I also made a poll about (re)writing, to let off some steam. :-)

I wrote! On both the 6th and the 7th. Lots of words, no direction. Sigh. I've got to get going on my Highlander Holiday exchange fic this week instead of just "thinking" about it. 8-/

I forgot to check in for Day 6, sorry. But I wrote things on both Day 6 and Day 7. More 300-ish-word-chunks of the novel, on both days.

Something like 160 words yesterday, well upward of 200 to 300 today. I haven't kept track. Some of it's going to likely hit AO3, some will so very emphatically *not*.

Yesterday was a Very Long Day, Indeed, so I only managed 195 on the fanfic I'm working on, which is, honestly, about 190 more than I'd expected, so I'll take it.

Today is Another Very Long Day, For Sure. *sighs*

Day 7 -- I got a little over 160 words on Lamps, and I even got to do some real writing at the day-job, which was nice. Hopefully there will be more my-writing time tomorrow (the 8th).

Nov. 7: wrote. Started as an alibi sentence, but it became several paragraphs, because once I had figured out one sentence, it was clear what the next several should be.

I wrote today (and yesterday, too!) but it was all stuff for a private RP.

Today I have a goal of doing some fanfic, whether it's the dingdang fanfic or the other, unacknowledged fanfic.

Sorry to hear about the conversation confusions! This can really being annoying.
Sounds your current story has quite a mind of its own! In one exchange I more or less regularly participate, it's become common for some participants to include in their prompts the following line: "... but if your muse decides to go completely different paths, it's fine." This has happened a few times and made for some of the best stories of the exchange ever. So, crossed fingers that you're getting a good story out of this, one that will be fun to write for you while meeting the prompt requirements! :o)

I wrote 3,1k yesterday, although only 2,1 of those for NaNo. NaNo is... going. I find it harder than the last few times; I'm really lacking the motivation I got out of the statistic graphs and options. But for one they're so blown up visually now that it's difficult to even get a proper overwie on my 15" laptop screen; and then it's no longer/not yet possible to edit the daily word count. Since I always write beyond midnight, this makes a just average word count graph, although according to my own counting of days, I'm always at date -1, so the average is really better. It's probably a good thing that I'm now learning to find the motivation to write 2k or more even without the motivation I used to rely on, but a lot of the related fun is gone.

All of my stories go in the direction they want to go, sometimes paying exactly zero heed to the chariot driver shouting frantically about where the road is.
I'm full of sympathy, although I couldn't help a big grin in reading it put like this! ^^
