Greetings! This is the Write Every Day Check-In Post for 9 November 02019.

So, the first thing that came to mind when I saw the date today was a sketch I saw many, many years ago when watching a program called ZeD, which I was seeing over-the-air on the CBC affiliate with enough broadcast power to make it to the antenna. ZeD was the sort of thing where you could see just about anything, and that was an important part of it. Regrettably, while it was on the cutting edge of using user-submitted content on broadcast television, long before television started being made solely on the Internet, it was a short-lived thing. At least, in that incarnation. Now, of course, we have more than a few things that do what ZeD was doing early on.

That particular night, in addition to whatever else was on the program, I ended up seeing Steve Sullivan's short film A Heap Of Trouble [NSFW, unless your work allows you to observe nine naked men just walking down the road.] The most interesting thing about this film is not the nine naked men managing to walk down the road in a mostly held-together formation. It's that they can do so while singing in harmony. And also what happens as soon as the people in the neighborhood they are walking through start to hear the song of the naked men. But mostly, I remember it for the song the nine naked men are singing, which is entirely anodyne in the lyrics.

This is the sort of thing that, were it not only available on YouTube in a censored form, would absolutely go into YouTube Roulette when the family plays it. However, I can dump in The Laziest Men On Mars' The Terrible Secret of Space whenever things need some extra surreality. Or possibly using Thomas Benjamin Wild Esq.'s "I've No More Fucks To Give". [Also NSFW, because, well, fuck.]

Today, in writing, I got started on another assignment after a lot of false starts on ideas, and then decided to embrace the idea my brain was throwing at me and see what happened, at least long enough to either decide the hilarity is worthwhile and go with it or say "No, stop, this is a silly place" and try something else. Based on past performance, bring on the hilarity.

also tweaked a couple of lines in firelight and am trying to sort out if I have to rewrite existing words on ch 5 and 6 any in order to scoot the fic's setting to after "Chat Blanc". since the episode does not joss something important after all.

Oh *jeez*, wait wait, does that... is that a creeptastic white supremacy thing or something? I vaguely remember seeing reference to that somewhere, but I'm not sure, and I'm definitely not going looking! Frak, now I wish I'd written an extra word or two!

Confession, my first thought, on seeing the number 108, will forever be Wouter Walant, a cyclist who died in a terrible crash during the Giro di Italia, while wearing that number.

Nothing like that, thankfully. 108 has some religious significances, and is often a feature in various media for certain specific values. I thought it had more negative spiritual connotations, but maybe I was confusing the timeline that Lost exists in (or some other thing where 108 indicates a malevolence of spirit) with reality. Research always wins out in the end, and I can admit to being completely wrong that late at night.

Ooooooh got it, at least enough to be going on with. I didn't have a clue there re religious significances or not. I do remember reading something about a number that creepy supremacist types use as online shorthand for praising evil Adolf, but I don't remember exactly what number that is, and I'd really rather not look for that article again. Like, ever.

Day 10: 5 net words added to fic #6 (and a little tweaking here and there), and a thorough edit to fic #4, which took most of the day, added 505 net words, and brought the total word count to 9,527 (which is ridiculous, but never mind *g*).

Day 9 -- a little over 300 words of a sex scene, which was a surprise to me but not to the characters. it was a nice way to start the day. Maybe I can repeat the writing first thing tomorrow. (It only is possible on weekends, and it's really nice when I manage it.)

Day 9 was a declared day o' fun, but before we went off on our adventures, I added 598 words to the fanfic I'm working on.

If I can get it to go, it's kind of looking like it might turn out to be some sort of buddy comedy in a lot of ways, so hopefully a lot of humor goes into it.
