Write Every Day: 15 November 02019
Nov. 15th, 2019 06:22 pmGreetings! This is the Write Every Day Check-In Post for 15 November 02019.
How about that! We're halfway home, if you're on the NaNo train. That's still plenty of time to get everything done on the schedule that you want, naturally.
Today, I ended up playing Stunt Professional by doing programming in a different location on nearly zero preparation or warning. The nice thing about being a mid-career professional is this particular kind of stunt work is really easy to do so long as you have the space and access to a couple of resources, which I did. Much appreciation from the location where I was Stunt Professional, and from there it was mostly just meetings. I didn't quite get everything I wanted done, but that's because I went and was a Stunt Professional, and that work will keep until I get back into the office next.
Writing-wise, I put another chapter into the backburnered project, since an ending for the assignment project hasn't materialized yet, and I'm probably going to think about how the next chapter of that will go. I also continued to dither about whether or not to post the next installment of a series, because while the plot works entirely, it gives a fairly significant characterization shift to someone compared to canon, and it moves the tone of the entire series from somewhere fluffy-ish to something decidedly not. Then again, I have a work where someone has explicitly said they found the characterization dark, but they enjoyed the work all the same. So I think I'm just getting nervous about it for no reason. Some people will like it, some people won't, and maybe some people will stop reading it, if there are any further installments that show up (there haven't been so far, so, *shrug*)
My writing projects seem to be taking a turn toward the darker recently. That's not bad or wrong, just interesting to observe. Half the fun of posting work is posting stuff that comes into your head and that you put effort into. And then seeing that there are people who like it all the same.
I also poked at my stats for the year so far, and this year is turning out to be prolific, in terms of words produced in fiction efforts, and also the year where a single work is responsible for about 10% of my total kudos count. (There's your one-hit wonder, right?) And also, the year I went out into a megafandom and came back okay, with lots of people apparently enjoying things enough to leave a kudo, a comment, or a bookmark that just says "perfect". (It's not marked as a Rec on that bookmark, though. Which seems oddly charming.)

Date: 2019-11-16 02:52 am (UTC)won't, though. will do this instead:
the one that is post–"Chat Blanc" (at least), in which Ladybug asks Chat Noir what, hypothetically speaking, he would do if $person found out his secret identity. for several values of the variable. then what, hypothetically speaking, he would do if he learned she was $person, for all the same values.

Date: 2019-11-16 04:31 am (UTC)no subject
Date: 2019-11-16 04:35 am (UTC)all the values of $person are people their age; I've already thought of how he's going to answer for Lila, Chloé, Mylène, Ivan, and Marinette, and honestly that might be enough?
thing is this has to be after "Chat Blanc". it wouldn't work before. and I believe you've seen the episode now…so you see the problem.
(what happened that, given her extrapolation from Chat Blanc, she doesn't want to admit to is, she does in fact know who he is now.)
no subject
Date: 2019-11-16 04:43 am (UTC)Which presumably means that if Ladybug is asking from an array, that narrows Chat Noir's list of potential Ladybugs down to the point where he's going to figure out who she is, too.
So because Chat Blanc happens at all, Chat Blanc is guaranteed to happen?
no subject
Date: 2019-11-16 04:50 am (UTC)and the point is to avoid Chat Blanc—but she can't unknow any of this, she hates being dishonest with him more than she hates it with anyone else, she knows how much he's wanted to know and why he hasn't tried to find out, if she explains how she found him out then he will unavoidably figure her out inside ten seconds, and she hated the thought of hurting him (either him) less before than she does now
the question is do I leave this on the super angsty leave-it-in-plausible-deniability-land note or do I concoct a scenario where tossing that fig leaf aside becomes a strategic decision for some serious tactical advantage so that there's a happy ending

Date: 2019-11-16 03:36 pm (UTC)though honestly I was thinking something more like incoming akuma, let's fight it off together (or get simultaneously akumatized and then go storm Hawkmoth's lair) with kissing in.

Date: 2019-11-17 07:01 am (UTC)either Akumanette (Princess Justice) and she's a minion type who grabs Adrien as her knight, or Akumadrienette (Princess Verity and Sir Justice), not sure yet. in either event, need to watch end of season first probably, but Marinette resists akumatization long enough for Adrien to get their Miraculouses to Rose and Juleka. (Chat Blanc can't destroy the world if Chat Noir doesn't get akumatized. nor Miss Fortune or whoever if Ladybug doesn't.)
Akumanette and Akumadrien-or-Akumanette!minion then round on Lila, who is the obvious spark point for Marinette's akumatization, then Gabriel, because Lila confesses enough they realize Gabriel was trying to devastate Marinette. somewhere in there Carmine and Sable (Ladybug!Jukeka and Cat!Rose, I think; maybe vice versa) show up and are really competent for newbies. then Hawkmoth keeps trying to use the akuma's tell-the-truth ray on the akuma, but he can't control phrasing and can only sort of control subjects of questions, so when he tries to get Akumanette to command Akumadrien to say whether he's Chat Noir, she asks her partner where he was when Adrien jumped off Tour Montparnasse. ("Falling off Tour Montparnasse" is both the actual truth and, given her phrasing, an admission of being Chat Noir that he's phrasing to tell Hawkmoth fuck-all.)
Sable ends up delivering the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculouses to the safest place she can think of under pressure (given she knows she's wearing Marinette's earrings), Marinette's diary lockbox, while Carmine cleanses the akuma. since Akumanette and Akumadrien decided to kiss before the cleansing made them (like other akuma victims) forget, Marinette and Adrien are a little startled when they come to.
…
there, now I have written stuff for Nov 16. can my brain go back to operational now pls?

Date: 2019-11-16 01:15 pm (UTC)I played around a bit with the second fest fic and added 172 words or so to that, bringing it to what I think is more or less the ending. It's hard to tell with this one, as it's more a meditation or a moment-in-the-life sort of thing and not strictly a narrative, at least not the sort you could chart on Freytag's Pyramid. (Can you tell I'm an English teacher by day? *g*)

Date: 2019-11-16 02:33 pm (UTC)I guess I can tell by not knowing what Freytag's Pyramid is. But that might mean I have something interesting to spring on a relative who also teaches English and see if they can explain it to me.
