I used to have a video game (on a long-defunct computer, and alas, I can't remember the name of it) that had a line in its play instructions: "Stay cool at all times. Uncool dudes get stomped on." Which was broadly true; overreacting was the primary cause of premature endgames. I have cause to think of that a lot, when looking at video game culture.
Uncool dudes unfortunately seem to have a great deal of influence.
