Electric Challenge 2020 Stage 8: Blast Off! Gummi Ship III

Electric Challenge #8 asks us which of our fictional worlds we would most enjoy living in. At which point I realize that most of the worlds that I have played games in, I may not be all that interested in being a part of, unless I end up being a protagonist. Being an NPC in a lot of games is pretty dangerous, whether it's the roving gangs of adventurers, the villains doing their best to level everything, and how difficult it would be to have any kind of comfortable living in many of the fantasy worlds that I've been in (or their technological dystopian counterparts.)

Like, I also want to know whether I'm living in the world where the adventurers find the True and Golden Ending and everything is the best they can be or whether we're in the ending where the heroes fail and we're on our way to the worst of the Bad Endings. That's stressful enough on this reality.

In terms of worlds I've played where it wouldn't be terrible to live in, the world of Pokémon seems like it would be a good fit. I could continue to do the profession I do, and perhaps the kids and I would have friendly trainer battles and the like, and even though there's always the local crime syndicate that has to be dealt with, they can be dealt with by kids with sufficiently powerful Pokémon. As an NPC, being in the Pokémon world seems like it's a relatively safe bet without too many potential world-destroying events happening.

And who knows? I might end up being one of the Gym Leaders. Although that would mean having to specialize in a type of Pokémon, wouldn't it?

If it were the kinds of worlds where I knew I would be heroic and that I would find the right pathway to the best ending, it would be good to be part of the Kingdom Hearts universe, mostly for the opportunities to traverse the worlds and keep the light strong. Or possibly study under the Master who figured out how to bridge both his light and his darkness.

I get the impression that most Pokémon characters specialize in a particular type of Pokémon because that's both easier and expected. Like, the proper care and feeding of Water-types and the proper care and feeding of Fire-types are probably pretty different, so it probably takes less time and money and effort to properly care for two Water-types or two Fire-types than for one of each. People like Ash and the typical Pokémon RPG player character are outliers for not specializing, as well as for going wandering.

Though also if one only has one or two Pokémon to begin with, even if the two are the same type, is one really specializing? Because Ash and them are outliers on that count too.

I forget where I saw it, and you may have linked it, but sometime theorized that carrying a full load of six is super-expensive, and therefore really only fit the people who rant to be the top of the Pokémon League, while everyone else has their Pokémon that help out with their job instead, and only need one or two at most.

I also have vague recollections of seeing something about disability in the Pokémon world, one of the takeaways being Pokémon are often service animals and/or emotional support animals.

That's kind of helpful if you need such things, and it's a lot more socially acceptable, I believe, for those animals to exist and be helpful.

I'm trying to remember if the idea that the premise of the whole Pokéverse being animal spirits helping humans is canonical or a fannish extension from observing the distinctly animist context in which Satoshi whatsis came up with it

If you were a Gym leader Silver, which type would you use??

I'm not sure. I don't know if there are enough of any given type I'd enjoy, but I think I might be the Gym Leader of "Pokémon with attacks that don't match their type," such that trainers looking to match up against my weaknesses would find themselves on the wrong end of super-effective attacks.
