Okay, then.
Apr. 8th, 2005 03:06 pmThis is a midafternoon comment because I'm about to head home. Home has dial-up. Home also has my little brother, who often likes playing Puzzle Pirates in the wee hours of the morning, when I'd normally be pestering the on-line world. So you get the goods now, before I go home and may not have any time to give them.
Let's start with something that sounds really, really, wrong - Wal-Mart, the dating center - and progress to something that really is wrong - the view that illness is normal.
And the Synchronity department has my number again.
tinchen was admitting that she, like many of us, doesn't really fit into one category or another when it comes to beliefs, and so in saying that Tinism was just as good as anything else, I remarked that I was holding out for Pranksterism, because it would help explain my life. Well... speaking of Pranksters...
I also got to watch something cool this morning. Some film students were out doing a lightsaber test for one of their projects - I managed to get the place and time when the finished product would be screened. Half the fun was watching other people - they'd usually stay out of the way of the camera, but I don't think they were nearly as interested as I was. Reminds me that I should go trawling for some lightsaber demo movies out here on the 'net 0 it's something I'd love to do sometime, even though the individual frame rotoscoping is probably a really long task. And then Synchronity strikes again - was talking on IM with a friend, and she sent me a link to the realities behind Star Wars's myths. I just realized that one - isn't that a hoot?
Maybe this is reward for getting the thesis done - I've had a lot of fun things happen so far in the last two days that I like. Plus, I'll be at home, which means I can either play games or work on a paper. Either way, it's good stuff. Plus, I should be taking back some of my manga collection and such for storage at home. Well, have to go fetch my little sister now, so that we can both trek home. If I manage to put something up in the next two days, that's fine and dandy, but if not, oh, well.
Ah yes. A reminder to self - get MT book three so that you have something when Fred comes into town.

Date: 2005-04-09 01:18 pm (UTC)I'm not being flipant, I don't know at the moment who does what. However it could be a simple matter of matting. You make the "blades" specific colors. One is a bright blue, the other a bright green. You shoot the scene with said colors. You then tell the computer not to see those colors and put something else in their place. It's a fairly simple video trick. Making halos and what not would simple a matter or layering over the stuff that is already matted. The AVID editing system has something that can do that (or something very much like it) however AVID is proffesional level stuff and comes with aa pro price. There should be some form of software on the market that would let you do that. (lightsabers are a very common request for home use effects software) You would probably have to do the tedious frame by frame stuff anyway, just to make it look better, but if you do prep work properly it won't take that much time.
What a project like this requires is a bit of money, a bit of equpiment and a bunch of fiddeling time, and of course some knowledge on how thigns work. As I am a fully qualified videographer I can always lend a hand or advice.
A digital camcorder, a comptuer that can run video editing software, and the software itself would get you started.

Date: 2005-04-10 12:56 pm (UTC)I just thought it was fun watching someone do the base filming on a technique that I actually knew how (perhaps primitively) to reproduce myself. It's cool.
