It's the Hump-Day.
Jun. 29th, 2005 09:48 pmTomorrow morning, I'm going to talk to some exuberant children about the benefits of being in marching band (and my college's marching band). Beyond that, I have a paycheck that needs depositing, and then I'll wrangle with myself as to whether to book it for home, stick around, go to visit my sister, go do something else this weekend, and try to plan out some sort of attraction for my birthday, which is coming up very soon.
There was a downpour earlier that had sufficiently cool thunder and lightning. It also convinced my computer that it wanted to power off with no apparent reason. The power grid didn't get interrupted, really, but when I came home, my alarm clock was blinking time, indicating usually an interruption of power... but the computer was fine. So when the computer hiccupped, the alarm clock was fine. Must be the air conditioners are drawing a little too much off the grid. Oh, well. So long as the major grids don't decide to fail out again, like they did last year (two years ago?), we'll be okay.
Also, I pimp D.C. Simpson in the musical ways sense, too. Not only is he a cartoonist (ex. Ozy and Millie, I Drew This), he's also a musician, and since I like the stuff he's done, you guys should check out http://www.simpsonmusic.org, his music site. Lots of tracks for listening and a CD if you feel like supporting that habit.
A nuclear fusion reactor? Is this true? In France... which makes a certain sadistic sort of sense, the more I think about it. Between this and the zombie dogs, could it be possible that The Future is arriving (finally)? Does that mean we can get the cool world peace things, too?
It'll take some work, that's for sure. Between Republicans shooting at Democratic criticisms that haven't happened over an appointment for a vacancy that hasn't happened yet, the illusion of hegemony, and the American tendency to think themselves 'special', there's a lot of improvement if we even want to get close to the level of Canada. Plus, our pop singers suck.
There are some cool bits, though - like the component jewelry that you can get. And there are people with vicious senses of humor that know a thing or two about turning a ruling back on its owner. Observe the case of a private developer asking to seize land according to the new eminent domain interpretations. That it happens to be the privately owned land of a Supreme Court Justice who ruled with the majority is immaterial. I fully expect the law to realize the obvious public interest in having a hotel on a Justice's land and give it to the developer. (Which, if it happens, you think we can all scrape together a few bucks here and there and invest in the project?)
Were I a virtue, I would apparently be Justice... and were I part of the X-Universe, Nightcrawler is apparently my best match. My band didn't do so hot with the people I chose. And no, none of those get their cute pictures and such. You'll just have to imagine it. Like Nethack.
