...the temptation to sleep is always great on days when there isn't anything to drag me out of bed. This is bad, especially for next semester. Much as I like working on the later-night schedule, I don't want to do it when papers are on the line. Speaking of college work, this week looks promising - not much left to do other than some arts and crafts. Beyond that point, I'm still deciding whether I want to spend Saturday mostly with the extended family, or whether I want to hop back into town for Gir's furmeet. Decision, decisions. Both options are quite acceptable, really. Problem is, I know I'll enjoy myself at both places, and so I might feel a little guilty about leaving the extended family. The whole bit about how enjoyable "bad" things make us feel guilty. I can only wonder the sort of reaction I would get if I told Mother, "Oh, yeah, I'm going back to [college town] to hang out with a bunch of furries. See ya!" Pffft. Right. When you're not real sure you even want to bring up the subject of how you haven't felt like the religion you were raised in was right for you, and how they're not always fond of your anime deviancy, but they tolerate it, and such. Yeah, telling them you're hanging out with a bunch of people that are stereotypically branded as sexual deviants is not the best thing to be doing. It might feel like I said I was dating someone of another race, even though, as that article points out, the idea of separate races is really a biological impossibility. (It's a class thing, the article says, and I'm somewhat inclined to agree.)

I do have a public service announcement to make to parents - this may come as a surprise to you, but libraries are one of the least safe places to go if you fear that your child will be mugged by a stray idea. After all, librarians will cheerily put graphic novels about very adult themes in the young adult section. If they're filed there, it's probably because the intended audience is... young adults. Young adults are probably curious about these things, and rather than censor them ourselves, we expect you, as parents, to monitor the content your children are reading. You may object to your child reading it, but that doesn't mean we're taking it off the shelves. It's our subtle way of encouraging you to take an active role in your child's raising.

Why Geeks and Nerds are worth dating. The things that most high school girls should take note of, so that they start turning out well-adjusted geeks into the world, rather than cynical jerks and weepy spineless guys. Not even that they have to give it up to the geeks, just that they could throw them an encouraging sign every now and then by deciding they might be worth dating, rather than resigning them to the ostracizing so very commonly found in the after-school special.

So, good night, and see you in the morning, or something like that.
