Top story tonight - There's talk about the filibuster. There's also a motion to close debate scheduled to happen. Who's the front man for this late surge of Democratic resistance? John Kerry, believe it or not. This close to seeing Mr. Alito possibly be confirmed, someone realized that backs were against the wall and went for the move that appears to be left. Apparently, some form of liberalism is back in vogue, it's just not popular enough for people to be running election campaigns off it, I guess.

There's some interesting rumblings coming out of someone who wants to lead the state of Texas. The candidate hasa plan with some interesting taxes - 10,000 per person involved in an abortion, 50% sales tax on greasy food and anything with added sugar, and 100% sales tax on any video game or toy that contains, includes, or uses human (or human-like) violence in it. This is in addition to getting rid of the renewal fees for licenses and abolishing the property tax. Oh, and there's also going to be mandatory 2 hour P.E. for all schoolchildren and a mandatory healthy diet instituted to combat "obesity and addictive behaviors" in the students and staff. Perhaps this person shares the view of the majority of Americans and quite a few Brits, too, about what should be in the school curriculum.

Another one of those things that we always knew was true, but now have the science to back it up on - Political bias impedes rational thought. Does that mean, then, that if Bush takes bin Laden seriously, enough to keep engaging in illegal wiretapping, then I can dismiss anyone who supports him as being irrational? Although, someone could accuse me of being partisan in my irrational hatred for the glorious Big Br--Commander-in-Chief, too. Cuts both ways.

If you really want a good head-spin, check out this article about Snowflakes and the Second Theory which puts together both a great explanation of why laws are theories and all laws do is create chaos. Science and politics, all in one. He'd probably be on the watch list by the UCLA headhunters I linked before (incidentally, they're no longer offering cash, because it would violate policies, but they're still confident students will voluntarily tape the classes and turn them over to be analyzed for "bias". See above article about political bias, please.)

Speaking of politics, there are quite a few people who might raise an eyebrow or two at Hamas gaining a majority government in the Palestinian Parliament. Whether anything at all happens out of this is another story entirely.

Someone actually is suing a company for making malware - under the guise of protecting from malware, no less. We grin at the potential implications, and would be quite pleased, if the charges are true, to see what sorts of punishments will be levied.

If none of that was to your liking, perhaps you'd rather be regaled by an anecdote by the ever-articulate [livejournal.com profile] wicked_wish about Coke Machines and toy rayguns. If not that, then you may perhaps be amused by the continuing investigation into the elevator close-door button conspiracy.

Okay, one more button-pushing issue, because I can't resist - A suggestion that marriage be desacrilized, even possibly disbanded. Check out the comment to it, as well, that points to all the obvious data that the article-writer seems quite well aware of, and the insistence that "If they'd only work harder at it, they'd be fine! Americans just don't have the patience for a marriage!" I believe the commenter missed the point of the article by a wide margin. But that's just my opinion.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] greyweirdo, if you need some new words to use, check out the 1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue. Should be some good new material for you there.

Little bit of A, little of B. ^_^

Actually, he's got some pretty good ideas, from what I've heard from him. His website is here: http://www.kinkyfriedman.com/ if you're interested. It's got a bit of a tongue-in-cheek bent in some parts, but people who've been to some of his campaign speeches say he actually sounds like a fairly good candidate.

Oh, and I don't like Rick Perry.
