It starts in earnest tomorrow.
Aug. 26th, 2004 11:30 pmI once again hold the holy instrument in my hands. My musical audition is tomorrow, and I might botch it horribly or I might make it happen pretty well. I go last (the disadvantage of sitting last chair last year) which gives me the most time to practice, right? But it also means that everyone else's sound has been heard and is being compared to. So there's a good chance I might sit last chair again, since from what I've heard, our new crew is musically talented. Oh, well. I can sit last chair and still get into block. Hopefully as a senior, I'll be able to leverage my experience into ensuring that nobody dislodges me. We'll see what happens.
The fun begins tomorrow with a vengeance. Of course, that means that my internet access for the next week and change will probably be much more limited than it is now, timewise. I'll just have to run on the reduced 'net schedule. I can handle this. I really can.
So why am I so godsdamned nervous about this whole thing? It's not like they'll tell me to get out of the band. But I get like this in at almost anything I might consider to be a challenge. Even for finals where I really do know the material, I get really nervous about it. Am I suffering from some sort of Type A++ personality aftereffect? Or is this some serious neurosis that I should go get looked at? How do I keep cool enough not to screw up because I'm nervous, but not so relaxed that I blow it by being too cool about it?
Well, either way, I'm going off to bed. I can not think about it for a bit while I'm not thinking. Any luck you can spare will be useful.
Maybe I'll just be Zen about it, and think of this image and realize that it's not important.
Or I'll do really well, like the people in the movie that you can access from this page that have all the cool funky ninja moves, and just 0wn the field. I can try, at least, right?
