It wasn't exactly a social calling, as my little brother and little sister were around. But I enjoyed having them along, and got to talk (well, really more of a listen, as we were all collectively watching a movie or two at the end (the end of Club Dread, which was horrible, and then the remade The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler) with some of my younger sister's college friends. They're an excellent group of lunatics, bandos or otherwise. Sister's made some good friends for herself. The padded rugby team tried to lose the game, but they were outdone by the other squad, and had to graciously accept victory. Truthfully, for the offenses it was a pretty good game. The defenses, however, were sucking it up pretty hardcore.

Around the conference, unranked teams beat ranked ones at least twice around, as our game and another ended the same way. I would normally consider that a sign of the strength of our conference, where anyone can beat anyone else on any given week. Of course, that does hurt the rankings of all the teams in the conference if there is no dominant power. Ah, well. You never know what happens around our padded rugby team.

I'm hosting my little brother at the moment, as the parents have a wedding and a baby shower (different people) to attend elsewhere, and I happened to be on the way... and I have broadband. And somewhat interesting things to do in the town. Was supposed to watch my little sister, but our start times got crisscrossed, and we arrived at the end, and not the beginning. She took it with good grace, having been really aggravated before. We took her to dinner, and things seemed okay. I felt a little bad about the mix-up. That wasn't what the plan was for today. Of course, with him around, I'm even less inclined to do work. I still need to find something convincing for a couple of questions that I don't have answers to. Depending on what I do or don't tomorrow, I may be in the right vicinity to actually accomplish the task. Or maybe not. I might just sleep in and then do something else and burn another day. I have a book set here with me to add things to media logs with, too. I can pack in the work if I feel like it. I'm going to need to feel like it for a bit yet. But frontloading for me has always paid dividends later in the semester when papers come about. So no reason to stop now.

I didn't get anything from my usual sources of the strange - then again, I haven't been in for a lot of the day, so I suppose that's forgivable. So I think I'll go to bed... it's late, and eventually, I have to get back up for class... like on Monday. TTFN.

Whoo!

And it was that kind of day - the one where things fell into place. Finished an assignment, printed it and another one. Am apparently in good shape for all the other things that are going down this week, which means that it's time to go frontloading on one of the major assignments. So I'll be doing that for some part of tomorrow. When I'm not meeting about the project thing. For the moment I have some breathing room, and I intend to take advantage of that fact by doing a lot of simple things, like skimming through books to make stuff out of them. For some reason, graduate school also seems to want to teach me a few things about what is actually considered important work and what may need to be blown off in favor of keeping one's sanity. That's probably not an intended lesson, for certain, but it is a by-product of the increased workload.

That leaves less time for the truly important things, like: How many colours in a Crayola box? And how many of the have changed their monikers due to political pressure or changing times? Who knew that colour was such a sensitive topic?

Grave of Odysseus found? Or rather - finally released to the rest of the world. Turns out the modern world might have named itself a bit strangely compared to the ancients.

Poetry in the headlines. Or poetry of the headlines. Or something. You make the call. (Idly, if you're still searching for Hallow'een costume ideas, and don't mind a VG theme, try 1-Up's suggestions.

Also, today, may have helped out my cough by roaring my disapproval at referees and cheering on the field hockey team. I felt a lot better after getting the aggression out. I'm not sure why, but the presence of other students seemed to embolden me into being my more rowdy self. Maybe I feel more protected with them around, like I did in the trombone section, and do in the volleyball cheering section. Bit of a transformation there, I suppose - one of the few places where I can let my inner asshole out and have most of it waved away. Oh, the field hockey team did lose, but they were down 3-0 at the beginning of the second half and made it a 3-2 loss. Improvement, if nothing else. Class tomorrow - discussing potential project proposals. It will be a well-deserved rest tonight... or something like that.
