All done, that birthday thing, and it was fun, certainly. Lots of good food and good company (thank again to [livejournal.com profile] greyweirdo, [livejournal.com profile] droewyn, and [livejournal.com profile] hollygrahm for having me over for a bit to chat and eat.) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thewayne for sending over a copy of his excellent game Zombie Cafe. It might make a run at the gaming convention this November. I managed to snag a six-pack of bagels this morning gratis, and they're good bagels... although there were only four after I had breakfast this morning, hehe. Many thanks, also, for all the wonderful birthday wishes. Although the trombone list got the other bone who had a birthday today, there was nobody there wishing me one. Maybe I am that forgettable to them... or just not popular enough, or something. Oh, well, no big loss. All the people who wanted to remember did.

Pentacle refused for soldier's grave, because Wicca is not a recognized religion by the United States military. I wonder if they refuse Islam, too, because there seem to be an awful lot of Christians in strange places that don't think to highly of Muslims, either... and remember, this country was not founded as a Christian nation, regardless of what Pat Robertson or Fred Phelps believes.

[livejournal.com profile] droewyn, you said you had Sanctuary? All I've got is Passion, so having that would be a nice addition to the collection. Speaking of video game music, I'm still going down to Play! on the 12th, so if anyone else is going, let me know so that we can say hello, perhaps, at some point in the concert.

Also, not surprising, considering I'm a water sign, we find that water dominates my life )

I did forget to mention that I watched Tron yesterday while at [livejournal.com profile] greyweirdo's. Looking at Sheridan as Tron, well, was weird. I also note the funky, funky glasses, the collar outside the suit coat, and I pointed out a Pacman on the display screen that apparently had an SEP field around it for the times that [livejournal.com profile] greyweirdo had watched it, because he noticed, and proceeded to laugh for quite a while afterwards.

Magazines recruiting for the Army... by trying to convince the young and cynical that they want to be part of the Army. With an entire issue. And a set of classroom activities suggested to accompany said issue. Middle and high school kids are getting recruiters and propoganda, colleges get the Solomon Amendment... can't the armed forces just leave the people who don't want to join alone?

On a more positive note, here's something neat to see - hybrid large-truck diesel engine technology that's being developed on a shoestring budget and relies a lot on corporations being interested enough to fund it. Well, we can still hope that these technologies will be released to the public and widely adopted cheaply if they're properly effective. We'll see whether or not this gets buried to ensure that some companies can retain their profit levels.

Also, a geek/nerd/dork dating service... that might actually work. Why not? Everyone deserves a shot, and if the right people meet up over discussing whether Kirk or Picard is a bigger badass, so be it.

[livejournal.com profile] aoanla reviews a book on "raunch" feminism - and lays out the theories discussed in it in a magnificent manner. I'm actually a little worried that if "raunch" feminism is taking over, then feminism is at best holding position, likely sliding a tad. Go read it. And then, if you like, go read the book, too.

Last bit for tonight - I did an entire storytime today. Not a lot of people around, and a lot of the kids were active. I tried to channel that as much as I could into activity, but it just kept going. So no sitting quietly for me - I hope I wasn't any sort of embarrassment, but the people who've done that before say that there are some days where nobody wants to sit still at all. So I suppose that since I didn't break down, and that even with this, and the rest of today, which was hectic, crazy, and involved all sorts of noise and chasing, I still think I want to do this profession. That's a very good sign - I had a bad day, and I still think it's a good profession.
