Okay, so today was productive.

silveradeptInterview went off, did not botch, as best I can tell. It'll take a week before I know whether or not they'll have me. But, that's behind, time now to concentrate on the examination arriving tomorrow morning at 9am. Hopefully, I'll be done with it in time for lunch. (We know better, though We hope to be done with it by the end of Saturday..)
For those of us who carry memory sticks (and a lot of us do these days), wouldn't it be nice to take a look at the stick and know just how much data was on it (or at least a good approximation?) Well, the idea behind some of these flashbags is just that - depending on how full or inflated the bag is, that's how much space you have on it. Space at a glance - neat idea.
A different sort of neat idea - albeit one that causes you to blink twice and possibly shudder - is the gentleman who put out a lawn sign advertising for a wife. The kicker is that his age range was from twelve to twenty-four. What makes most people look at it crosswise is that, as far as I can recall, it's perfectly legal, if a bit odd. Would require some court assistance, though, for marriage underneath contract-signing ages, though. Neat idea, but a bad execution, in my opinion.
The arc of a soldier's mind on Iraq, and the destruction of his trust. Not a good thing when your military is doing more than having second thoughts about everything. Low approval ratings and all, this is the sign of a serious problem. Especially if you believe that the President may be trying to instigate the Apocalypse of John. bradhicks's writing about how the Republican Party sold itself out to the religious faction because it feared Communism so much. The President doesn't need to say that he wants to usher in the end times, because the party's been trying to do so for the last fifty years.
The Slacktivist makes a rather poignant statement regarding the meaning of words: Rule of thumb: Whenever you hear the most enthusiastic proponents of abstinence-only sex education saying that sex is "sacred," understand that what they really mean is that sex is profane. (Entry is here)
The digital television revolution will be upon us - I think everything's supposed to be broadcasting in digital by the end of the year. When that happens, there could be a new wrinkle in television-watching - with new technologies, companies could block people from channel-surfing during commercials. Even more so, they might be able to stop you from watching a competitor's network (of course, the consumers wouldn't stand for it, and so the FCC would have to do some mighty explaining as to how they let that one go through). What's likely to appear is an additional fee so that you can switch away from commercials. I do believe that runs exceedingly close to extortion.
Also, a Cool thing for tonight: Feast your eyes upon the works of I am 8-Bit!. If your gaming memory is retro enough, all of this art should trigger some memories - and I really like some of the pieces on display there.

As for neocons ushering in the end times - well, Y2K didn't pan out. Maybe they think we're running behind schedule now and are working to make up for lost time?

Date: 2006-04-21 04:56 pm (UTC)Myself, I'm anti-Pro Life because they are (mostly) bitterly opposed to birth control being taught in school, saying it will lead to promiscuity. GUESS WHAT! THEY'RE ALREADYING DOING IT! If they were better informed, there might not be as many pregnancies! I'm not a fan of abortions, but I think it should be a woman's choice.

Even the kids who think they're going to be strong can change their tune in a hurry. I want compulsory effective sex education, which includes contraceptives and their uses, as well as responsible sexual behavior, because the kids will do these things. It might "encourage promiscuity" only so much as some of the kids who are unsure of what to do or how to go about it are equipped to do things safely. But yes, I'd rather have effective contraception that lots of abortions myself.
