The spartan-ness of the room begins to show itself as I pack. It's only moving a little ways down the street, but still, it's moving, which means everything has to be packed away. Still trying to figure out what I will do about the posters and artings. Probably they'll be helped along in one way or another. Still, it's a little weird to watch the room that you've lived in for the last couple years slowly become ready for another resident. Hopefully they treat it better than I might have. Still don't have everything packed, of course, as I intend to be Internet-capable to the very end, and then to have the box be one of the first things up and running when I arrive at destination. Mostly because it holds the vast majority of my musical collection.

Some very important questions to ask yourself. Whether they actually have answers is an exercise left to the reader.

A thought about the Iraq crisis: Maybe we should let the Iraqis vote on whether they want us to stay. Of course, this is founded on the idea that, of course they'll want us to stay. If they should actually say, "No, go home.", then that wouldn't look too good either, than would it? In my case, I'm all for "Bring the Troops Home" when it can be done safely and we've cleaned up the mess we've made. What would have been smarter was not to have gone in the first place, but now that we're here, we should at least own up to having fucked up and rebuild the place and put a stable, hopefully better, form of government in place. after that, if they then decide to trash the place themselves, then they can pick up the pieces and try again, but it will be their fault.

Some people are getting out of Guantanamo. Woo. Of course, there are still a significant number of people there, and most of them haven't been charged.

I'm not really trying to pimp [livejournal.com profile] bradhicks, it just happens that at this particular juncture, there's a lot of interesting things coming out of his journal. (Whether I'm better suited to aggregation and dissemination and the occasional smart remark than things like he's posting, I dunno. To each their own, I suppose.) Today, he describes what he perceives the American Dream is - a formula for, if not succeeding, at least not losing. Of course, it could all just be a lie. Why not study some of the art of the lie some and see whether it is?

I wondered with a friend on Tuesday where the 32% are that are still approving of the Bush Administration. I was also trying to figure out how that percentage could still be that high, considering that Cheney's approval rating is significantly lower. I get some idea, though, of who those people might be on reading the following article. What it's actually about is the probably unwarranted, negative, and profane commentary a fifteen-year-old animator got over a film that plays a child singing "Jesus loves me, this I know" over the imagery of slain, wounded, or crying Iraqi children. The responses vary from someone asking if the animator is a "muslem terrorist", to advocating her execution under treason, to a suggestion that Cindy Sheehan's image is sufficient for autoeroticism. And those are probably the highlights - I'll bet the rest is worse, graphic, and poorly spelled. I guess that says something about where the 32% comes from. It may say something about the quality of the people, too, but there are probably several intelligent people who support the current administration, and so making a blanket statement would be stupid.

Do you need lamps? Or some plates? Or silverware? I find I have these things, just lying about.

A poster tube can be had at the post office for less than $3 and is a worthwhile investment... about 5 posters per tube is a good rule of thumb.

For smaller things, use an artist's porfolio or two pieces of heavy cardboard cut oversized, duct taped together and lined with butcher paper.
