Only a couple days left until The Freaking Suite II: The Wrath of Con! (with Christopher Walken) Our stop will be an Anime Central, one time only! If you're in the area, stop by. I may not be in, but we hope you'll have a good time while you're there. They'll probably have an idea of where I am, if you really want to meet me or say hello.

Regressing the cause of getting furry people and peoples with vampirism for a while (and possibly providing fodder for another CSI episode), there's a story of a self-claimed lycan accused of killing his girlfriend. Apparently, also a bit of vampirism tendencies. Really, though, I always find it aggravating when these things appear, because they make it look like those are the reasons why someone commits those kinds of acts. It's no different than accusing gothdom of being responsible (which they insinuate), or of music, or video games, or some other thing. These things are not responsible for someone doing that. Figure out what was wrong with the person, sure, but unless it's a true-to-$DEITY cult with malevolent intentions, don't go blaming that!

For the Americans today: Happy Loyalty Day. This was previously "Americanization Day" - now it makes a certain amount of sense as to why there would be protests about immigration today (although, it also being International Workers Day, I suppose that makes sense, too). It's also Mission Accomplished Day, for those keeping track of the body counts. It's also around or close to Beltane, another of the great feasts of the year.

Rush Limbaugh arrested for prescription fraud. And works out a deal, as well. Perhaps now he realizes firsthand why you don't want to put people in jail for minor drug charges, having managed to make a deal on a significantly stronger sort of drug charge. (Admittedly, he takes a fairly reasonable mug shot, don't you think?

On the left, the athesits claim the believers are the angry ones, because of the atrocities that some of their number commit in the name of $DEITY, and have committed with regularity over time. Regardless as to whether one considers them hypocrites or not "true" followers, they do it in the name of their chosen faction. The good ones then wonder why they get tarred with the same brush, even though they've obviously done nothing of the sort. It's as I said above, though - unless everyone's being destructive and malicious, then it's not really fair to lump them all together, but as we see, it happens.

Impressive. Although, this probably makes the rabbi think, "See, SEE?! They all just suffer from misplaced anger at some trauma of theirs. They're repressing whatever it is that made them turn away from the pure and holy light of God."

There is one thing for atheists, though - a lot of them are quick and vehement about defending themselves.

The Rabbi has probably gotten quite a large ration of shit from his own people as well over this. I mean all he does is level a series of insults with no justification or back up for any of his statements. Even a fairly ferverent believer would have to step back and say "Now hang on a second" when reading that.

I mean he even goes so far as to compair the situation with Yankee's fans, who have never banded together to get any legislation passed of any kind as far as I know, never mind saying who you can marry or what end of the bus you can sit at.

I would have thought that if anyone had anything positive to say about that, then the web site would have put at least one of them up. Also, surfing around a little I found a few religious blog were complaining about how that sort of thing just makes them look bad. From the religious stand point he complains that the atheist never want to talk nice and then he goes on to say what total shits they are, so no wonder they won't talk nice to him.

People who would like to actually start a dialouge can't begin with "You're all fuckers, why don't you all jsut fuck off."

Exactly, which is why I rarely get into those kinds of arguments anymore. If people want understanding they've got to be polite or I disengage, which is preferanble to the evicerating I used to perform (Note: we all know I can't spell for siht)

What struck me was the wilful missing of the point with his reference to Camus. He can't believe they feel better believing that "the point of life is that it ends."
Well, no, that's not a happy thought. To argue that we shouldn't believe things just because they don't make you feel good, on the other hand, seems to be morally irresponsible (as well as out of tune with the ethical spirit of the religion he claims to represent).

But then, I've had /precisely/ this argument from Jehovah's Witnesses before: "Oh, but wouldn't you feel better if you believed that there was a God out there looking after you?". They didn't understand why I considered this to be an invalid argument...

Okay, that's probably too snarky and verges on nasty, but it does show the falicy of the "feel better if you believed" argument.
