There's a game going on in Ann Arbor right now, and I have no idea where I could watch it. According to the limited tracker access that I have, even now, the team is getting their butts handed to them by the Division I-AA champions from last year. Could be a long year for the crew in Ann Arbor if this is the trend, rather than the exception. From my inside sources, the defence has a rather sieve-like mentality, and there's a mobile quarterback, two things that are University of Michigan problems through much of time. As usual, doing my daily Internet ration. Have also met my co-worker today, as she was back from vacation today. I think this is going to be an excellent job. Everything happens on Tuesday, as usual. I'll keep myself busy until then, of course. There's probably a lot to do here.

Just one link for today - Iraqi insurgents line their pockets with contractor gold. Which makes a certain amount of sense, considering the stability of the region at the moment.

Anyway, I do have things that will keep me occupied and meeting people today, and possibly keep me well-occupied for the rest of the weekend. That's the hope, anyway. Maybe on Monday, my thumb will be good enough to do a little bowling or something.

Still though, ow.

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense, but even so. I thought all this stupid Big 10 Network stuff meant that all Big 10 games were going to it?

Just be glad you couldn't/didn't watch it. For my take, I'll just direct you to read my latest blog entry.

What's a mobile quarterback?

So are they an extra quarterback on the field?

I get the concept, but I thought there was only one QB on the field at a time?

Oh, Okay. Now I understand :) thanks!

Have you heard any of the rumblings about the U-M game? some people are saying that if U-M doesn't win the rest of their games this season, they won't make it to any of the bowl games...I think tha'ts rubbish, because well, look at Penn State last season. We slurped for a while there, and we even lost two Big 10 games and still went to a bowl....or do you think those people are thinking that unless U-M goes to Rose bowl or the BCS game it doesn't count?

Oh, and I did find out from watching the news that FIU was an easy team to beat - apparently it was "effortless" on our part.

Yeah, but losing by two points shouldn't really do anything really bad, right? I mean, U-M is still ranked #5 on both polls (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankingsindex?pollId=null&weekNumber=2&seasonYear=2007).

Btw, what does the (2) mean at Michigan's rank? I have a feeling I had to ask you last year, too, but I don't remember what you said.

If you're referring to that link you put up in the earlier post, forget it. That was done up pre Saturday so that's not gonna count. The new standings won't be out until probably Tuesday. Michigan'll be lucky to be in the top 20. As for the question about a Bowl bid the problem with the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) is that pretty much anyone, and I do mean ANYONE, can get a Bowl bid. It's like "Hey, everyone wins because they get a Bowl bid." That's bullshit. It's the same thinking as giving out participation awards to snot-nosed kids. It should be a playoff setup, based SOLELY on their record against teams within their conference. Then the winners of each conference go against each other until the last two face off for the National Championship. This BCS bullshit makes me want to puke.

For those of us who bleed Maize & Blue, it's National Championship or bust. Fuck the other bowls. It's nothing more than a way to hoek advertising (see Nokia Sugar Bowl, Tostitos Fiesta Bowl among many others.)

Sob, some of us consider it a miracle if we can win more than one conference game. We'd faint if we got into a bowl game.

Then perhaps there can be a wild card setup like in MLB or set it up like March Madness for College B-Ball. I know it can suck for some teams & schools but this idea of the BCS having this "Have your cake & eat it too" mentality really makes have the feeling of being a resident of Federal "Pound me in the Ass" Prison.

For us, a bowl game is a bowl game, and we'll take whatever we can get. So we got an invitation to the Fiesta Bowl a few years back despite our crappy season. Penn State is a team that will draw fans, no matter what our record is. It seems to me that U-M has a lot of fair weather fans, and that certainly doesn't help team or fan morale!

Hey, I like Penn State and LOVE Joe Pa. Man's got more energy than some of his players, and at his age? Damn.

As for the fans, it's not "fair-weathered." It's expectations. Michigan gets great prospective players, has great coaches and has a pedigree of winning when it mattered most & going all the way. I'll still watch U of M games & hope they do great for the rest of the season but the fact of them being beaten by a team that was in a lower division is just a slap in the face that'll sting for quite a while.

Joe Pa is amazing. He's also really fun to talk to with that nice brooklyn accent :) Reminded me of my grandfather.

I heard from one of my friends who still goes to all the PSU games that there was a HUGE turnout for paternoville the night before the game this past weekend for him :)
