Lunchtime updates may be part of the regular work idea, at least until I can get installed and connected at home. Tomorrow, supposedly, I'll be able to move into my apartment. About time. I'm happy that I'll have a place to go home to that I can call my own. Even if I still need to buy a couple floor lamps for the place.

Sing a fugue or an aria for Luciano Pavarotti, who passed away at 71 years. Certainly had name recognition and got lots of people to remember what a night at the opera might mean.

Anyway, moving onward to things of more interest and importance, like nuclear weapons being loaded onto planes and flown across the country, or comedy theather exposing security theater. Unintetionally, of course. And then there are those who have probably deliberately provoked security theater, like a man arrested (eventually) because he left a store with his paid-for merchandise and opted not to show the clerk the receipt and let him inspect. Eventually, even though he summoned the police because his vehicle was being blocked, he was arrested for obstruction of police business. Corporate controls all, we know, we know.

To distract you from that sequence, there's new iStuff gadgetry.

So, go about your business, citizens. I've got still plenty more to do tomorrow and over the weekend. And that's at work, not to say all the other stuff I have to do with the apartment.

Ya know... My mate and I were having this exact discussion last weekend, when we were leaving a Target store with the single item we had purchased (a vacuum) and I decided to just let it go, because we didn't have to line up for them to check our receipt.

That said, I hate this practice. It's inconvenient and annoying, and frankly, it insults my sense of a good transaction.

Given a choice between a place where I can do self-check and not get my receipt checked and a place where I am monitored...I'll choose the former.

Internet shopping is definitely the way to go. :)

I've never seen anyone by the door at Target, but at Wal-Mart they always station thse elderly people and all I can think is how inadequate they would be if someone does steal something because it's not like these elderly folk in wheelchairs can chase someone down.

It's not that they actually read the receipt or will chase you down, it's that they give the impression that they are monitoring you. Just giving this impression will encourage people to be more honest.
