Say Happy Birthday to the newest member of the community of Adults, at least according to the U.S. government. Our good friend [livejournal.com profile] welah turns 21 today, and so they actually think he's responsible enough to imbibe the bubbly. He's not doing that today, but he has the option.

Happy Birthday!

I still say the drinking age should be 16, and the driving age 18 or higher. That way, kids can go out and get their whole drinking binge thing over with before they learn to drive. Remove this ridiculous American mentality that Alcohol is the root of all evils (damn Temperance movement!) and we might be able to reduce the number of alcohol-related deaths, crimes, and divorces in this nation.

See, that's just it. If we can get rid of the dreges of Temperance, and teach people to respect rather than fear alcohol (the Christian anti-alcohol idea is purely American, I assure you), then the binges won't happen near as often simply because it won't be a taboo to deviate from.
