Write Every Day: 01 August 02019

silveradeptGreetings! This is the Write Every Day Check-in post for 1 August 02019. If you are unfamiliar with Write Every Day, it's a traveling show, bouncing between spaces, staying at one particular spot for a month, usually, before wandering on, meant as a place where people who are doing writing can check in about the progress they've made. The minimum amount of writing involved is usually the alibi sentence, a sentence written so that you can say that you spent time writing today. The maximum could be quite significant. Some people keep count with words, some of us keep count with where we are in projects, assignments, and stories. There's no wrong way to participate, so whether you're working on fiction, nonfiction, personal writing, meta, background, research, a thesis, or any other kind of writing, the writing you do counts as participation. And while this is an encouragement to write every day, there's no penalty if you have to skip one. Or two. Or an entire month. Come and go as you need to. Write on days that you can, skip on days that you don't have to. There's no pressure, no requirement, no obligation to participate past what you want to or are already doing.
Comment if you want to participate, indicating that you wrote today. You can provide as much or as little detail as you want, and I'll add you to the tally of people for today. As the month grows, the tally list starts looking pretty impressive.
I only started with Write Every Day recently, after someone on my circle (alexseanchai) hosted for a month. The idea of doing a little writing every day makes sense, and when you're someone who does a lot of exchange writing, like I do, you have to be thinking or writing on a story almost all the time to make your deadlines.
Of course, when most of your writing is for exchanges and assignments, you don't get to talk a lot about the specifics of your writing, on the off chance that someone might see you talking about it and know who is writing for you, or they might be friends with someone who you're writing for, and that ruins the surprise that comes with exchange fic.
Which is to say, I hope that you'll help me through the month with your check-ins and your comments about what you're writing on. Or interesting things that you've come across. Because I have to be vague about what I'm doing much of the time.
I did some work today on an assignment, left a long comment on today's post related to the Giving of Grief (a reread of the Dragonriders of Pern franchise, knowing full well that it was not going to have aged gracefully since I last read parts of it), and continued to build out my post queue for said Giving of Grief, while managing the thrice-cursed practice of adulting. Let me know what writing you've been up to.

Date: 2019-08-02 03:06 am (UTC)Q: I'm in New Zealand, so I'm a day ahead of everyone else. Is it okay if I check-in for my-todays, or will that overly complicate your tallying? I know it's a bit of a hassle, sorry. *shakes tiny fist at timezones*
I currently have a couple of flashfics on the go, plus a WIP that's part of a series (AKA the episode-related fic), and three longfic WIPs that are starting to get a bit stale and dusty with neglect. I'm having an operation mid-month, and I've been terribly scattered lately, but ideally I'm aiming to finish the flashfics and the ep-related fic, and make some progress on at least one of the longer fics. (In practice, I'll probably start something new and my plate will get even fuller. \o?) Everything is fanfic for Guardian, a super-slashy SF Chinese drama about the police department in Dragon City which deals with supernatural crime. The guy in my icon is the department chief, Zhao Yunlan.
1st: I added 692 words to flashfic #2, which went in an unexpectedly sensitive direction and is definitely going to require some serious beta-age as a result.
Haven't written anything yet today (2nd), but I'm about to knuckle down and try now. Will report back. :-)
